Grimaldi Group passenger and vehicle ferry serving the Balearic Islands
About the operator
Mainland Spain to the Balearic Islands
Trasmed is a Grimaldi Group ferry company connecting Barcelona and Valencia with the Balearic
Islands. Its current network covers Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza directly, with Formentera available
through connecting products.
The service is built around conventional passenger and vehicle ferries, making it especially useful
for travellers who want to bring a car, motorcycle or motorhome to the islands. Several principal
crossings operate overnight, allowing the sea journey to double as a night's travel.
The official Trasmed website also sells Barcelona–Porto Torres and Barcelona–Civitavecchia. Those are Grimaldi Lines-operated routes, not ordinary Trasmed Balearic services, so EUFerry keeps that distinction clear rather than folding them into Trasmed's direct route network.
EUFerry naming note: the current operator is correctly branded Trasmed. This page remains at `transmed.html` to preserve the existing EUFerry URL and capture common “Transmed” searches.

Trasmed routes
Trasmed serves more Balearic combinations than these three examples, including Menorca and
inter-island sectors. These cards show the main journey types in the current 2026 programme.
About 7 hoursBarcelona–Mallorca
Catalonia
Barcelona
Mallorca
Palma
The 2026 Barcelona–Palma programme includes overnight departures of around seven hours, with return
daytime sailings often taking around seven and a half hours.
Daily-style mainland–Mallorca service
Useful for travellers approaching from Catalonia and France
Cabins can make the overnight crossing much more restful
Valencia–Palma currently follows an approximately eight-hour pattern in both directions, with
overnight and daytime travel depending on the direction and date.
Direct mainland link to Mallorca
Convenient for central and southern mainland Spain
The original EUFerry route map is retained as the approved visual asset. The current
Trasmed-operated network should be read as mainland Spain–Balearics: Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza,
plus connecting products to Formentera.
If the illustrative map shows older or wider Mediterranean connections, use the live Trasmed
timetable as the source of truth. Barcelona–Sardinia and Barcelona–Civitavecchia products on
Trasmed's website are operated by Grimaldi Lines.
After choosing the most practical route, compare the live Trasmed sailing for departure time,
calling pattern, passenger requirements and the facilities or accommodation shown for that service.
The complete itinerary and arrival location can matter more than a small difference in the headline
fare.
Trasmed does not currently operate the old North Africa network historically associated with
Trasmediterránea. Do not confuse Trasmed with the former Armas Trasmediterránea business.

Three core gateways
Barcelona, Palma and Ibiza
These ports sit at the heart of Trasmed's current passenger network and all use established EUFerry
destination imagery.
Mainland gateway
Barcelona
Barcelona provides Trasmed connections to Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza and is particularly useful for
road travellers approaching from Catalonia, France and north-eastern Spain.
Trasmed also serves Mahón and sells routes involving Alcúdia and Ciutadella. Check the exact island
port because Mahón and Ciutadella are on opposite sides of Menorca.

Cabins and passenger accommodation
Trasmed's conventional Balearic ferries are suited to several-hour and overnight crossings, with
cabin and seating choices depending on the ship.
Private cabins can make an overnight mainland–Balearics crossing feel more like a night's rest than lost travel time. Higher-category and outside cabins add comfort and natural light on selected vessels.
Passenger seating
Reserved or general seating offers the simplest option for passengers who do not need a private room.
Best considered forDaytime travel and budget-focused crossings
Inside cabins
Inside cabins provide private sleeping space and are useful on the operator's overnight
mainland–island routes.
Best considered forOvernight travel at a lower cabin price
Outside cabins
Outside cabins add a window or porthole while retaining the privacy and rest benefits of private
accommodation.
Best considered forCouples and families
Higher-category accommodation
Selected Trasmed ships offer upgraded cabin products with additional comfort and space.
Best considered forPremium overnight travel
Pet accommodation
Trasmed accepts pets and offers ship-specific arrangements that should be booked at the same time as
the passenger ticket.
Best considered forPassengers travelling with dogs or cats
Accessible travel
Passengers with special needs should declare assistance requirements during booking so the
ticket-office and boarding process can be prepared.
Best considered forPassengers requiring additional support
Cabin tip
For a seven- or eight-hour overnight route, compare the cabin cost against the value of arriving
rested with your own vehicle already on the island.
Several hours at sea
Food, lounges, shops and Wi-Fi
Trasmed's conventional ferries provide the facilities expected on longer Mediterranean crossings,
with the exact mix depending on the ship.
Restaurants and cafeterias let passengers eat during the mainland–island crossing. Passenger lounges provide space to relax outside a cabin. Trasmed promotes onboard shopping as part of the passenger experience. Outside decks offer Mediterranean views when weather and ship operations permit.
Restaurants and gastronomy
Trasmed provides route- and ship-specific restaurant and cafeteria services for longer Balearic crossings.
Bars and lounges
Indoor lounges and bar areas provide alternatives to remaining in a cabin or passenger seat.
Wi-Fi messaging
Trasmed promotes Wi-Fi messaging access during the journey; maritime internet performance can still
vary with ship location and demand.
Onboard shops
Selected ships include shopping for gifts, personal items, travel essentials and leisure purchases.
Family travel
Longer ships include public spaces suitable for families, with the exact children's facilities
depending on the assigned vessel.
Open-deck travel
Outdoor areas provide fresh air and sea views during suitable weather conditions.

Take your own vehicle to the Balearics
Vehicles, pets and accessibility
Trasmed is particularly useful for island road trips because conventional ferries allow passengers
to bring vehicles and more luggage than would be convenient by air.
Motorhomes, caravans and larger leisure vehicles can be booked subject to garage capacity. Vehicle type and dimensions should match the booking presented at check-in. Pets need their own booking and boarding pass, with ship-specific accommodation rules.
Cars and motorcycles
Cars and motorcycles are accepted across the principal Balearic services subject to available deck space.
Enter the correct registration and vehicle dimensions
Follow terminal lane instructions
Take voyage essentials from the vehicle after parking
Motorhomes, caravans and larger vehicles
Touring vehicles can be booked where garage height and length permit. Include racks, trailers and
other external equipment in the dimensions.
Book the full vehicle combination
Reserve peak summer deck space early
Check island parking or access restrictions separately
Travelling with pets
Pets must be included in the reservation and issued their own boarding pass. Ship-specific pet
arrangements should be selected during booking.
Bring the health documentation required for the journey
Use only the booked pet accommodation
Collect a separate pet boarding pass when required
Reduced mobility and special assistance
Passengers requiring special assistance should declare it when booking. Those bookings are excluded
from ordinary online check-in and use the Trasmed ticket office instead.
Record assistance needs before travel
Allow extra terminal time
Collect boarding passes through the staffed process
Use online check-in where your booking qualifies
Check-in, documents and boarding
Trasmed's online check-in can reduce terminal queues, but groups, passengers with special needs and
partner-operated routes follow different procedures.
Eligible bookings can obtain boarding passes online before travel, while exceptions use the port ticket office. Vehicle passengers should arrive with enough time for garage check-in and loading rather than relying on the final boarding minutes.
Recommended travel sequence
7 days before
Online check-in becomes available for eligible bookings
Trasmed allows boarding passes to be obtained online from seven days before departure for qualifying
reservations.
Before travel
Check whether your booking is excluded
Groups, passengers with special needs and services operated by partners such as Grimaldi Lines use
the relevant staffed ticket office.
Before leaving
Download every required boarding pass
Babies and pets can have separate booking locators, so make sure their passes have also been issued
where required.
At the port
Arrive well before the departure time shown
Allow additional time for vehicle processing, busy summer traffic and any document checks required
by the terminal.
At boarding
Use the barcode-ready boarding pass
Damaged passes or passes without readable barcodes are not accepted and must be reissued at the counter.
The ferry changes what you can take to the islands
When Trasmed can be the practical choice
Trasmed is most useful when a Balearic holiday benefits from having your own vehicle. The ferry
removes airport baggage limits and lets a car, motorcycle or motorhome arrive on the island with the
passengers.
Barcelona works well for travellers approaching from Catalonia, France and northern Spain. Valencia
is a natural departure point from central and southern Spain and has direct routes to both Palma and
Ibiza.
The overnight pattern also changes the economics of the trip. A cabin can combine transport and
accommodation, while a vehicle booking can remove the need for a week or two of island car hire.
